Gottman Method Couples Therapy
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
The Gottman Method is a unique evidence-based therapy for couples and is widely considered the gold standard for successful couple recovery. Drs. John and Julie Gottman have spent over four decades researching what does and doesn’t work in relationships.
They have observed over 3000 couples, some for up to 20 years such that they can predict relationship success with 90% accuracy. Gottman Method Couples Therapy was developed in the mid 1990s based on their observations of what does work to create happy relationships.
It has been thoroughly evidenced on a variety of couple demographics including Gay and Lesbian couples. Gottman Method Couples Therapy is a process oriented, phenomenological, cognitive, emotionally based approach.
It focuses on the three core areas of a relationship: maintaining intimacy and closeness (Friendship), managing conflict, and creating shared purpose and meaning within the relationship.
Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy
Bonnie Ingram Psychology offers individual therapy for a wide variety of concerns including Trauma, complex Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, and problems in relationships.
Historical trauma can cause a feeling of emotional distance in relationships and influence relationship satisfaction. Cognitive Processing Therapy is specifically designed to facilitate recovery from trauma and thus allows one to feel more connected in their relationships.
Feelings of anxiety, sadness and worry can affect all areas of a person’s life and well-being. Understanding what is happening and learning helpful techniques can help you to feel better. Individual therapy can also be helpful for those looking to build resilience and grow within themselves.
Problems within a relationship can also affect mood. If this is the case, an holistic approach to therapy is essential to improving both mood and quality of the relationship. If you are experiencing these symptoms within the context of any relationship (intimate partner, family members, friendships) you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan from your General Practitioner, and thus ten sessions with the Medicare rebate.
Some other things Bonnie may be able to help with in individual therapy include:
- Understanding ‘what happened’ after a relationship break-up.
- Navigating the early stages of a new relationship.
- Deciding whether to continue with the challenges of a current relationship.
Marathon Couples Therapy
Marathon Couples Therapy
Marathon Couples Therapy is quickly being established as the most effective form of couples therapy because it leads to swift and sustained changes within a relationship. It allows a couple to deeply explore the challenges within their relationship and develop a more intimate understanding of each other within a short time-frame. Those experiencing extreme distress in their relationship often choose to do a marathon (two-day) or half-marathon (single-day) session very soon after their intake session, usually the following day or weekend.

Being Atypical is a gift, and, within an intimate partnership, this can come with a unique set of challenges. Problems can occur around communication styles, sensory needs, differences in abilities and functioning, all of which can lead to communication breakdown and feelings of loneliness. Bonnie offers support to couples where one or both partners experience neurodivergence.
